Hi friends,
I came across a video called “Willpower is for Losers” on a YouTube channel called What I’ve Learned. In the video, he explains why you should not rely on willpower to resist temptations. Here are three things that I learned about willpower.
-
Resisting temptation depletes your willpower even if you have successfully resisted the temptation. You only have a certain amount of willpower each day. So, if you use a lot of willpower on one thing, then you will have much less of this energy to use later.
-
Productive people plan their life, so they don’t have to use willpower in the first place. They remove the sources of temptation, so they don’t have to exert more willpower to resist.
-
Having too many choices can be a bad thing. For example, when you come home from work or school, you have many options like doing work-related activities, taking a nap, watching Netflix, and even playing video games. However, this can cause a persistent feeling of indecisiveness or uncertainty. This, in turn, can generate anxiety and lower your ability to focus.
If any of these points interest you, I highly recommend watching the whole video!
Have a great week!
