Tuesday's Tackling Tasks: Habits for Work-Life Balance

Tuesday's Tackling Tasks
What I’ve Created for You This Week: My COVID-19 Vaccine Experience (Part 2)
Hi friends,
Since the semester has started, I have been struggling with balancing shifts working in the clinic, schoolwork, preparing for Board exams (exams we need to pass to become a licensed optometrist), and my personal life. I feel as though I have lost my way recently in terms of a work-life balance, but I recently came across an article by Thomas Frank to help combat this issue. He recommends three habits to create a better work-life balance.
Habit 1: Create obligations to encourage balance. Instead of replacing your “work” time with empty space, find areas where you can constantly direct your time.
Habit 2: Remind yourself of what makes you happy! FOMO (fear of missing out), jealousy, pressure, and metrics are external factors that drive what we do. We can counteract these external pressures by looking for what made us start in the first place.
Habit 3: Work with intensity. To achieve balance, we need to sacrifice time somewhere. Since time is finite, we need to identify exactly what we want to focus on.
These habits, especially the last one, have helped me “regain time” and squeeze in some fun activities. After all, productivity is not just about working 24/7, it’s about getting the important things done consistently.
Have a great week!
— Rushvi
P.S. I received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine today. The side effects are different this time around, so you can read about my experience here.
